Morton’s response to COVID-19

For generations, we’ve been trusted to flavor food. Soften water. Keep streets clear and safe. Support business and industry. And to sustain life itself through our essential products.

Morton Salt  produces a wide range of products for consumers, business and industry that support a broad range of applications including food, pharmaceuticals, water treatment, cleaners and disinfectants, and de-icing.

Now more than ever, Morton Salt is committed to supporting our employees, the communities in which we live and work and the consumers, businesses and industries that depend on our essential, life-sustaining salt products.

-Mark Roberts, Chief Executive Officer

And we are continuing to make the salt you know and trust during the COVID-19 pandemic, with enhanced protocols to ensure we help protect the health and safety of our employees.

Given the significant role Morton Salt plays in providing essential products and services to vital industries, we continue to operate as an essential business while following the best practice recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the World Health Organization.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated employees whose work continues during this unprecedented time. And we want to thank them for their essential support. During this time of great change and increased need of critical, life-sustaining products, our employees have answered the call to keep producing salt needed by consumers, customers and communities.

Employees

At Morton Salt, our Health and Safety credo is – “Nothing is more important than health and safety….not production, not sales, not profit”—and this has never been more true.

To recognize the dedication of our front-line employees during this unprecedented time and to demonstrate our sincere gratitude, we are providing those who continue to perform essential production and on-site duties with a one-time bonus of $500, representing a pledge of $1.5 million in bonuses across Morton and its affiliates throughout North and South America.

We have also provided ongoing COVID-19 health and safety information, protocols and training for employees and extended enhanced protocols when working with customers, transportation carriers and other business partners to ensure we continue to deliver safe and reliable products. In addition, we’ve provided greater flexibility with workplace policies at our production sites.

Employees and contractors in our corporate offices who are able to do so began working from home on March 16 and continue to do so until further notice.

Communities

Across North and South America, Morton and its affiliate companies are collectively pledging $500,000 to nonprofit organizations that provide essential support to those most in need during this challenging time.

In the U.S. those donations include $100,000 to support Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, $50,000 to the James Beard Foundation Food and Beverage Industry Relief Fund, and $50,000 to the Chicago Community COVID-19 Response Fund in our hometown of Chicago, Illinois.

In addition, Morton is making $100,000 in funding available to support local nonprofits in the communities where we operate across the U.S.
